my name is Matt

As a photographic artist I specialise in capturing the evocative, dynamic, and complex lives of specific subjects. With a focus on authentically encapsulating a moment from all metaphorical angles within a photograph, and a story over a collection, I have dedicated my passion and skills to truly understanding the essence of different perspectives, as well as the ‘why’ behind different forms of human nature.

My journey began as a boy with a disposable camera and a dream to become a pilot, and these two things would eventually culminate into reality. My outlook on life changed when I was diagnosed with cancer at a young age, and it was during this time in my life that I understood what it meant to be truly alive - it was about just a series of moments; watching, understanding and creating snapshots that will stand the test of time.

Naturally, my love for photography was cemented.

“Photography for me revolves around perception. It's about finding something in what could be seen as nothing; not so much about what you see but more about the way you see it. Photography matures into an art when the perception of an image - a moment - stirs emotion within the viewer, when they are able to look at a photo for just a second but it lasts with them forever.”

In 2013, the once disposable ambition was realised - I bought my first ‘real’ camera for achieving my dream aviation job. The world opened up before my eyes, both literally and figuratively, and I became exposed to cultures and backgrounds beyond the life I knew, and I'm fortunate to this day that my travels continue to take me to the new and unknown.

My fearlessness in capturing a subject’s story over a series is what I believe makes my photographs standout. To this day, I seek to capture untold stories of unfamiliar life in the most beautiful aesthetic and meaningful way.
